Sam Barlow High School's award winning theatre program presents "Lost In Yonkers" by America's great comic playwright, Neil Simon. The play, which is being produced in Barlow's intimate Little Theater venue, is set in Yonkers, New York in 1942. This powerful and funny "slice of life" tells the story of Bella, a thirty-five year old woman who is mentally challenged and living at home with her mother, stern Grandma Kurnitz. As the play opens, ne'er-do-well son Eddie deposits his two young sons on the old lady's doorstep. The boys are left in Yonkers to contend with relatable family disfunction surrounding Grandma, Bella, her secret romance, and her brother Louie, a small-time hoodlum. Winner of the 1991 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, laughter and tears have come together in a new emotional truth for audiences of all ages. This story evokes a new kind of laughter for Simon, a silent laughter, that implodes straight into your heart.
